Dance project STATIONS
...the answer is love...

Contemporary dance/ opera voice (soprano)

The dance project STATIONS interprets the theme of Via Crucis (the Way of the Cross) by means of contemporary dance and operatic voice (soprano). The project presents a remarkable combination of performing arts as well as exceptional performance of the soloist.

Three Lithuanian contemporary dance top performers together with a young opera soloist create a spectacle of peculiar stylistics, which reveals unexpected meanings of Via Crucis Stations. The live phonic texture of the performance created by the charismatic soloist Jomantė Šležaitė brings a pleasant surprise and gives expectations that the lyric coloratura soprano of the young soloist will soon be appreciated by opera-goers beyond Lithuanian borders.

Although the project STATIONS is designed as a metaphor of the Way, the audience should not expect any direct illustration of the plot or character of Via Crucis. Profound implications of the Way of the Cross are interpreted in contemporary perspective, hence conveying a new and relevant meaning. According to the project authors “it is very seldom that we contemplate on the true meaning of Via Crucis metaphor.” The common image of dolour and humility is just one aspect of the theme, yet it will not be highlighted in this project.

A well-tuned team of professional performers deliver a very simple yet hardly achievable incident of unconditional love, our personal resource, which gives the support and healing power found in all kinds of situations.

Thus, through contemplation and explanation of Via Crucis Stations, the project explores the different aspects of love - true, unconditional, divine.

The choreographer of the project Lois Taylor, the ex-artistic director of a leading dance company Attic Dance in South West England, believes that ability to express own thoughts through movement as well psychological compatibility of the performers are the key factors alongside professional dance technique in order to create an impressive piece of art.

This dance performance, invoking deeper insights and stimulating positive emotions, will   offer a perfect resort for those tired of everyday turmoil and global crisis.

Project is supported by Culture Support Foundation of Republic of Lithuania.
